Dear Andrew,
During 2008 we enlarged our pack house Blyde Pakkers in Hoedspruit to accommodate a new Compac electronic sizer to pack mangos and citrus.
• In order to do this we had to increase our covered floor space by about 2 500 square metres.
• The roof and most of the sides were clad with chromadek IBR sheeting.
• We finished just in time for the 2008/2009 mango season which is packed in the hot months of December
to March.
• The pack house enlargement had a major unintended consequence because the inside temperature was
rising to the mid forties and even fifties degrees Celsius.
• This was an unacceptable working condition for all personnel and was detrimental to the quality of the fresh mangos.
• We put in 5 extractor fans to try and cool down the interior and even considered putting water sprinklers on the roof !
• This is when we heard about Thermoshield and the sales pitch was so convincing that we took the bold step to paint the roof and the sides (a total of 4 000 square metres).
• The end result was truly amazing.
• The inside of the building is now on average 10-15 °C lower than the outside temperature on a hot lowveld day.
• The decision to use the product was the correct choice and I will recommend the people who did the job
to anyone.
